PUCO Damage Enforcement 

In 2015 a new law was passed assigning the PUCO with the duties of enforcing Ohio’s damage prevention laws. Beginning Jan. 1, 2016, aggrieved parties will have the option of reporting alleged compliance failures to the PUCO to be investigated. When the investigation is complete, the PUCO will then forward the information to the Underground Technical Committee (UTC), a committee made up of individuals with knowledge and experience in safe excavation, who will decide if a compliance failure occurred and determine an appropriate consequence...

Ohio Utilities Protection Service - One Call 

The OHIO811 was founded in 1972 as a nonprofit collaboration of the Ohio Bell Telephone Company, East Ohio Gas Company, and Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company. Charged with protecting Ohio’s underground infrastructure, the alliance provided notification to facility owners about planned excavation activities. Within its first year, OHIO811 processed 13,678 excavation requests. In the years to follow, the organization expanded membership and developed its departments. The incorporation of technology and modernization of everyday operations has solidified the organization’s position as a damage prevention industry leader. Today, OHIO811 has over 1,300 members and receives over 1 million excavation requests annually...

Ohio Bureau of Worker's Comp Trench Safety Grant (TSG) Program

As part of our Safety Grant programming, the TSG Program is available only to Ohio employers that perform trenching and excavating. Review the complete program policy, otherwise, click on the appropriate link below for the specific information you want. Eligible employers may receive up to $12,000 for the duration of the TSG Program. This is a 4-to-1 matching grant, which means BWC will provide $4 for every $1 an employer invests in the intervention.
